Visual Regression Testing

What is Visual Regression Testing?

Available on our Enterprise level website maintenance plan, visual regression testing means manual and automated tests to visually check the consistency of the style and aesthetic design of your website to ensure that changes to functionality or content don’t damage them.

As a site grows, a common pattern is that the styles added for new website features have unforeseen effects on the existing styles and layouts. Without visual regression testing, these knock-on effects can escape notice, leading to a broken visual appearance for some users.

Another unfortunate pattern is where new design features are added to the website, but aren’t tested fully across all browsers. Visual regression testing catches and flags these errors, saving you from manually inspecting every page on your site.

How does it work?

When a site is brought under a website maintenance plan. we set up a snapshot of the site’s key pages. We then set up our monitoring system to automatically crawl the site and take screenshots of these pages on a defined schedule. The system will automatically flag to our team if the new screenshots deviate significantly from the old. We also perform regular manual checks for design issues and fix these proactively, logging these changes on your monthly website maintenance report.
